The Carnegie Hill Concerts series, hosted at Church of the Advent Hope, programs a rare opportunity to experience “just intonation” works on a re-tuned acoustic piano, along with tabla, percussion and Indian vocals.
Michael Harrison has been called an “American maverick” by Philip Glass. He has been working in just intonation for over three decades, offering an integrated landscape of the evolving world of contemporary music and traditional Indian classical music.
Michael Vincent Waller has been composing based in New York for almost a decade. His lyrical and modal works are very conducive to pure tuning. He has arranged two works from the last couple years as well as a new premiere for one of Harrison’s tunings.
Michael Vincent Waller:
Early Night (2017, premiere)
by itself (2016), arr. for JI
Pasticcio per menu e piu (2014), arr. for JI
Bairagi Bhairav (2017, premiere)
